Hay on Wye

During a trip to Hay on Wye in Wales I decided to experiment with some black and white photography.

Time Trial

On the way there we stopped in a layby on a fast section of dual-carriageway.

As luck would have it there was a club time-trial cycle race on that section of road enabling me to take some close-up and more general shots of the competitors giving their all to the race.

Wide open aperture, high shutter speeds and exposure balancing using iso, these images took quite a lot of post production to bring out the face details.

Hay On Wye

Hay on Wye is a very interesting small town in central Wales.

Famous for its book shops, it also offers some great photographic opportunities.

I shot a combination of street photography and some interesting buildings.

Converting the colour RAW files to black and white in post gives the images a more direct appeal where colour might distract from the content.
